MapHook Launches First Social Discovery Mapping App
Curated Data Reveals a New Way to Discover and Explore Your Favorite Television Shows Based in NYC
Washington, DC, September 15, 2014 -- The highly anticipated 2014 fall television premier season jumps into full gear later this month. Utilizing public knowledge of known areas filmed across New York City's diverse and eclectic boroughs, MapHook, a developer of social discovery and location related applications, today launched a map highlighting popular locations from some of America's favorite television shows. The map is part of MapHook's CultureHook project, designed to help people discover more about the area around them; it displays dynamic pins that show locations made famous in acclaimed TV series, from classic pop culture hits such as Seinfeld to current shows such as Boardwalk Empire and Law & Order: SVU. The pins contain curated content such as trivia, pictures and videos about the shows and the locations where they were filmed. New York City residents and visitors alike can discover famous nearby film sites by visiting the mobile optimized map at www.maphook.com/nytvmap or by downloading the MapHook app from iTunes or Google Play.
The NYC TV show map features locations of interest such as::
- The iconic apartment building from popular 90s television show Friends, which served as an establishing shot for Rachel, Monica, Chandler and Joey's apartment.
- The increasingly popular local pizza joint by day and comedy club by night, Ben's Pizzeria in Greenwich Village, featured in the opening scenes of Louis C.K.'s hit FX show Louie.
- The Chelsea Piers, a favorite filming location for everyone's favorite crime and legal drama Law & Order: SVU.
"We're really excited to release our second content curated map from our CultureHook project," said Dr. Paul Carter, President of MapHook. "Inspired by the previous success of our San Francisco movie map, we decided to search for another locale where we could create something that's new, exciting and highly relevant to the area - and that's how the NYC TV map was born. We can't wait to see how our fans interact with the new map and complement it with their regular MapHook app experience while in the Big Apple!"
MapHook's mobile app helps people find, tell and share activities around them. A new version of the app was released in July and includes up-to-date location-related information from popular sources such as Yahoo, Twitter, Yelp, Wikipedia, Foursquare and Groupon, making places of interest, famous locations, events, current pop culture and news trends, and other nearby content easily accessible all in one app based on a user's location.
MapHook is a software applications development firm based in Dulles, Virginia. The MapHook app is a location-based social discovery app that empowers users to find, learn and share real-time, curated information about the places, events and trends near and important to them.
